Odd Fellows, Rebekah offer Maine nursing scholarships

Mar. 162017

AUBURN — Students pursuing an education in nursing in Maine may be eligible for three scholarships offered by the Grand Lodge of Maine Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Rebekah Assembly of Maine.

Deadline for all three scholarships is May 15. Applications are available for high school graduates as well as any student already in a nursing program in Maine, the organizations announced in a news release. To qualify for the coming academic year, the student must be a Maine resident, must attend college in the state and must be actively enrolled in a major field of study leading to a degree in nursing. Students may apply for each award and could win from each fund.

The W. Scott Reid Nurses Scholarship Fund delivers 22 to 24 scholarships annually of $20,000 to $25,000, at $1,000 per student approved for the award. The Ellen Washburn Award last year granted 12 students scholarships of $1,200 each.

Applications for both are available at the Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows IOOF, 80 Caron Lane, Auburn, ME 04210, online at www.oddfellowsofmaine.org/wp-content/uploads/-W-Scott-Reid-Application.pdf and odd.rogue.gs/wp-content/uploads/Washburn-Nurses-Applications-w-letter.pdf, or by calling the grand secretary at 786-3638.

The Rebekah Assembly Nursing Award is for students enrolled in a Maine school of nursing leading to an RN degree. Second, third and fourth-year students may also apply. Applications may be requested from Joyce Young, 6 Juniper Circle, Gorham, ME 04038; 839-4723; e-mail jobeyo1953@maine.rr.com.
