RUMFORD – The boiling has begun! Sugar makers all over Maine are preparing for the state’s annual Maine Maple Sunday festivities. Ben Byam of Rumford, daughter Melina and son Jonah bask in the warm, sweet, maple vapors inside their cozy sugar house on a cold winter day last week.
Byam’s sugar house was built last year by students of the Region 9 School of Applied Technology, Building Trades Program in Mexico under the direction of their instructor, Lloyd Williams. Byam, who is also a Rumford firefighter, will be offering maple syrup and ice cream from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Maine Maple Sunday, March 26, at their home, 1756 Rt 2, Rumford Point, Rumford. Stop by to see sugar making in action and sample some fine maple syrup.
