WATERVILLE — Congressman Bruce Poliquin delivered the keynote address at the 2017 Scouting Citizenship Award dinner — honoring John and Jackie Dalton of Winslow — held March 2 at Thomas College. Scouting District Advancement Chair and Master of Ceremonies, Chuck Mahaleris, introduced Poliquin, who spoke about growing up in central Maine and how important home town values were for him growing up. He went on to talk about how Scouting has positively influenced the lives of many families in Maine and that supporting the Boy Scouts of America will help us build tomorrow’s leaders.
Charlie Gaunce, Central Maine Motors Auto Group, presented the award to this year’s recipients — John Dalton, president of Inland Hospital, and his wife Jackie. John spoke to the crowd about the project management skills he learned as an Eagle Scout, preparing him for the leadership positions he assumed as an adult.
Ryan Poulin, chair of this year’s dinner, announced $20,000 was raised at the event. According to Eric Tarbox, scout executive, “The funds received … assist with the services provided to the packs, troops and venture crews in the Pine Tree Council.” Training for adult leaders, district Cub and Scout activities, Scouting for Food Good Turn Project and various camping programs are but a few of the activities and services provided to communities throught central Maine.
Poulin, President and CEO of New Dimensions FCU and a board member of Pine Tree Council, Boy Scouts of America, said “The local business community came out and enabled us to exceed our goal amount for this event, which shows the immense support for Scouting in our area and the gratitude of the community to this year’s award recipients.”
The annual Central Maine Scouting Citizen Award is one of Pine Tree Council’s Friends of Scouting regional events designed to engage those in the business and civic communities to hear the message of scouting and learn more about services provided by the locals Scouts. Guests are asked to consider a financial gift to the program and possibly volunteer their time to a local Scout unit.
