Ecologically important wetlands to be discussed in Mahoosuc Land Trust speaker series event

BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust will present a program focusing on ecologically important wetlands in the region, including the Ellis River and the upper Androscoggin valley at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, in the McLaughlin Auditorium at Gould Academy.

Andy Cutko and Justin Schlawin, ecologists with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, will share their recent research on nearby floodplain systems as part of the trust’s 2017 speaker series, “Iconic Places,” according to a news release from the land trust. Floodplain forests provide outstanding habitat for a variety of wildlife and plant species, and Maine has some of the most intact and outstanding floodplain forests in the Northeast U.S. The Maine NaturalAreas Program is currently working on an inventory of the state’s floodplain forests, work the ecologists will share at the discussion, the news release said.
