SOLON — The EF-RHC Chapter of the NSDAR of Skowhegan will meet at 10 a.m. Dec. 3 at 18 Merrill Lane. A memorial service will honor member Dassie Jackson. Donations will be collected for the Somerset Animal Shelter. A potluck dinner will follow the business meeting. For more information contact Shirley Emery at 399-9449.
The September meeting program in Madison, “Elizabeth Dyar and the Memorial in Freeman,” was presented by Kathy Dellarma and Linda Dellarma. A display board was set up with pictures and illustrations. The members had been encouraged to visit the Dyar Memorial prior to the meeting. Although now maintained by the Colonial Daughters Chapter of Farmington, it had previously been maintained by the now disbanded Kingfield Chapter.
Lynda Quinn reported on the status of the Coburn Park Sundial Monument Restoration. Fundraising efforts have begun. Local businesses have been approached and asked for donations. Members are making donations at each meeting, and will ask for donations from others for the repairs to the Sundial Monument placed at the entrance to Coburn Park by the Eunice Farnsworth Chapter about 1924 to honor WWI veteran Alvan W. Bucknam, a Skowhegan native. Elias Monument has provided a quote for the costs to make the repairs.
Chapter Regent Shirley Emery held a genealogy workshop on Sept. 17 at the East Madison Fire Station for anyone wishing to learn more about joining NSDAR. Similar workshops will be held periodically with notices posted in local papers.
Oct. 8 marked the annual joint meeting with Fort Halifax and Silence Howard Hayden chapters. A good time is always enjoyed by the attendees.
During the Nov. 12 meeting in Madison, the regent told the history of her ancestors and displayed a picture board. Members have been asked to prepare similar family histories. In honor of Veterans Day, the regent set up a table with a cloth, a flag, a candle and a place setting for one to honor our nation’s POWs and MIAs who have never returned home. It was a very moving ceremony. Members brought donations for the veterans at Togus. A luncheon was shared following the meeting.
The chapter meets at 10 a.m. the second Saturday of the month, with the exceptions of January, February, July and August.
