AUGUSTA, Maine (July 20, 2026) – Race week has officially arrived as the Kennebec Valley prepares to welcome thousands of athletes, spectators, volunteers, and visitors for IRONMAN 70.3 Maine on Sunday, July 26.
Hosted locally by the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce and the City of Augusta, the 70.3-mile triathlon includes a 1.2-mile swim in the Kennebec River, a 56-mile bike ride through Central Maine, and a 13.1-mile run through Augusta and surrounding communities.
“IRONMAN race week is an exciting opportunity to welcome visitors, showcase everything the Kennebec Valley has to offer, and generate meaningful economic activity throughout our region,” said Katie Doherty, president & CEO of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce. “The event supports our hotels, restaurants, retailers, attractions, and service providers while introducing thousands of athletes and spectators to our communities. We are grateful to everyone who helps make this event possible each year.”
Community members are invited to kick off the weekend at the free IRONMAN 70.3 Maine Welcome Party, presented by Lajoie Brothers Corporation, on Friday, July 24, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Waterfront Park on Front Street in Augusta.
The celebration will feature live music from The Laura Hudson Project, food trucks, drinks, lawn games, and activities for all ages. IRONMAN is also inviting the public to join athletes for a free, two-mile Welcome Ceremony Fun Run beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Front Street. The evening will conclude with fireworks over the Kennebec River at 9:00 p.m., courtesy of Central Maine Pyrotechnics.
Residents and visitors should prepare for temporary road closures, lane restrictions, and traffic delays throughout race weekend, particularly on Sunday. Drivers are encouraged to review the official Traffic Impact Report, allow additional travel time, follow posted detours, and use caution near athletes, volunteers, and public safety personnel.
