TURNER – Turner Public Library “Free Lego Library!”

The only Lego lending library in the USA!

TURNER – The Turner Public Library is now the only location in the United States to have a “Free Lego Library!” Much like the small free libraries you see on the side of businesses or in people’s yards, the Turner Public Library now hosts a “Free Lego Library!”

The “Screamin’ Legoats” Robotics Team from Leeds Central School was the group of students who came up with this brilliant and innovative idea. The students participated in and won an innovation competition for the Lego League. Their coaches Geoff Cyr and Kara Getty put in a lot of time helping the students and are so proud of their accomplishments.

Turner Public Library Director, Nicole Van Tassel, is so pleased to have the “Free Lego Library” at the library for the community to use. She met with the kids via Zoom during the planning process and was able to come up with a plan for the kids to leave the cabinet in the main part of the library year-round. “Bridging the gap between the local schools and the library is one of our main goals here at TPL and we are so proud of what these kids have achieved,” Nicole shared.

The grand opening of the “Free Lego Library” was a huge success with many families coming out to the library for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and a friendly competition. The students and the library hope that many people come out and take advantage of this amazing new offer with the hopes that kids will “take one, leave one.” To keep this program fully functioning the library is asking anyone with Lego donations to please drop them off to the staff so they can keep the cabinet stocked.
