The Selectboard would like to thank everyone who participated in the Annual Town Meeting this June 13 and June 14
whether you were a voter, poll worker, or candidate. The Annual Town Meeting is a privilege and tradition of this
community that makes Wayne a special place to live. The Selectboard would like to welcome back Lloyd Irland and
welcome Marianne Butak to the Board. They would like to thank Doug Farris and Stacy Ketchen for their interest in
being a member of the Selectboard. David Stevenson was elected to the Budget Committee. David Twitchell was reelected to the Local School Committee and RSU#38 School Board. A special congratulation goes to our awardees at
the Annual Town Meeting. Wayne Bryant was presented the Helen Hicks Healy Award by Gloria Ladd for his many
years of service to the community as the Wayne Damkeeper. The Selectboard honored Don Welsh, Anne Huntington,
and the Dam Maintenance Committee with the Spirit of America Foundation Award for their many years of volunteerism
to the community. The Selectboard dedicated the Annual Town Report to Wayne Bryant and Dallas Folk for their many
years of service to the community. For a copy of the Town Report visit the Town Office. Also, would like to thank all
those who participated in the potluck supper. Lastly, the Selectboard would like to thank Don Welsh for years of service
to the Selectboard.
In observance of Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4, 2023, the Town Office and Transfer Station will be closed. It will
re-open on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, during our regularly scheduled hours.
Due to the Strawberry Festival, Saturday, July 8, 2023, several village streets will be closed to traffic (Bridge Street,
Lake Street, Memorial Park Lane) for the duration of the event, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Also, due to the high volume
of traffic in the village, the Town has contracted Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office to help ease congestion. The Town
will be posting no parking signs in a portion of certain village streets (Gott Road, Old Winthrop Road, and Pond Road).
Expect delays, please plan accordingly. Also, this year, the town has contracted Winthrop Ambulance Service to
provide EMS coverage at the event. If you have any questions, contact the Town Office.
The Annual Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event is scheduled for a Sunday, July 9, 2023, from 9:00 AM to
12:00 PM at the Readfield Transfer Station. If you are interested in attending, you must pre-register at the Town Office,
where you will be assigned a time to arrive at the Transfer Station. And, if you have any questions about accepted
materials, you can contact the Town Office (685-4983) or Transfer Station (685-3144). Remember, the Transfer Station
will be open on Sundays, 8:00 AM – 12:00 Noon during the summer from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day
weekend.
This month the Selectboard will be meeting on Tuesdays, July 11, and July 18 at 6:30 PM at Ladd Recreation Center
and Remotely.
This month the Conservation Commission will be meeting on Wednesday, July 12, at 5:30 PM at Cary Memorial
Library.
This month the Regional (Fayette, Readfield, & Wayne) Solid Waste Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, July
12, at 5:30 PM at Ladd Recreation Center.
This month the Planning Board will be meeting on Thursday, July 13, at 6:30 PM at Ladd Recreation Center. The
Planning Board will be holding a site visit regarding the Yogi Bear Jellystone Campground application on Thursday,
July 6, at 5:00 PM at the campground and a public hearing regarding the Yogi Bear Jellystone Campground application
on Thursday, July 13, at 6:30 PM at Ladd Recreation Center and by Remote. For more information, contact the Code

The Town’s Assessor Agent Matt Caldwell from RJD Appraisal will be available by appointment on Wednesday, July
21, 2023, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM to answer any questions you might have about your assessment or tax bill. To

Please be courteous to your neighbors and drive responsibly. The Town has contracted with Kennebec County Sheriff’s
Office for rural patrol this summer. Police will take notice.
Several years ago, the Town adopted a Consumer Fireworks ban. Please respect this ban for everyone’s safety and
peaceful enjoyment of town.
The Town has an Animal Control Ordinance that states no domesticated animal, licensed or unlicensed, shall be
permitted on Town property (highways, sidewalks, Ladd Recreation Center, parks, footbridge, Wayne Town House,
North Wayne School House, Town Boat Launch, Fire Stations, or old Town Office) without a leash. The Town provides
dog waste bags in the parks around the millpond, please be courteous to others who use these public facilities, and
please pick up after your dogs.
During the month of July, the Town will be using the services of Craig Buzzell to conduct roadside mowing. They will be
mowing all roadsides about 6 feet from the edge of the roadway. If you have anything valuable within the Town’s Rightof-Way and are concerned about what might get hit by the mower, please don’t hesitate to contact the Town Office
