Saturday, June 3
National Trails Day Tree Walk
9 – 10:30 am
Celebrate the gift of public trails access!
Grab binoculars and come out for a guided nature walk to learn to identify trees on an
easy walk near the museum.
National Trails Day Trail Pickup
10 AM to Noon
Join us to pick up and clear small branches and sticks along the GHW. Help keep the
trails cleared for visiting walkers. This project is part of Fairfield Trails Day events.

Bird Art in the Audubon Gallery
After observing some birds in the Audubon Gallery get inspired to create some art.
Materials will be provided.
Wednesday, June 7, 9:30am-3 pm
Workshop: Caring For and Storing Objects
Join conservator Ron Harvey of Tuckerbrook Conservation for this free workshop. Learn
best practices for handling historic collections and storing methods. All participants will
receive an acid free storage box to take home. Please call or email the museum to
register for the workshop.

World Oceans Day
Friday, June 8th is World Oceans Day—but we are celebrating on Saturday so everyone
can come! Come tour the Marine Biology Gallery and learn about varied ocean animals.
Through hands on observation learn about star fish, sand dollars, crabs and more. Make
a sea shell craft to take home.

NASA-NISE Earth/Space Activities
Use NISE Earth and Space Kits to explore STEM. Make craters, build a satellite, make a
cloud in a bottle, use solar beads, make a pocket solar system, sun dial and more.

Fish Prints
Create and take home your own artistic print of a Maine fish! Inspired by the traditional
Japanese art of Gyotaku, which began as a way for fishermen to record and compare
their catches—we use replica fish instead of the real thing!

Amazing Seashells
Learn about ocean mollusks, shelled animals that live in the ocean. Discover their
special tricks for successfully living in salt water. Examine the many beautiful shapes and
colors of seashells. Blow through a conch, look at holes made by worm shells, learn
about different species of mollusks and see some shells reflect light. Make a shell craft.

The Magic of the Letterpress
The concept of movable type was invented in China a thousand years ago, but the
refined and efficient Gutenberg press of 1439 launched Europe into the Renaissance.
Come learn the art of setting type and printing on our 1830’s Seth Adams Acorn press.
