Check your Fire and CO Alarms Frequently

First Alert, the most trusted brand in fire safety, along with health and safety officials, have issued a timely reminder to the public: the need to replace CO alarms as they approach expiration. With the passage of the Act to Protect Maine Residents from Home Fires and Carbon Monoxide in 2009, the “Pine Tree State” began requiring carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in all newly constructed one and two-family dwellings, town homes not more than three stories and multi-family dwellings. CO alarms are also required in all existing multi-family dwellings, existing single-family dwellings upon sale only, and all rental dwellings. However, alarms only last 5-7 years, so those alarms installed 14 years ago are likely now expiring.

This is solely a reminder to check your alarms as well as practice important safety steps to keep loved ones safe from the dangers of CO.
