REAL ESTATE Tip #4: What to expect when listing your home

Home owners who have not sold a home in while may be wondering about the process these days. It is always a good idea to interview several realtors and have them provide a listing presentation. This is essentially a marketing presentation — how the realtor will market your home to the right buyers.

The realtor will want to do a walk through, looking for unique features or areas that could use some extra attention to help it shine. The home owner should be aware of what needs repair or updates to accommodate today’s buyers. Also, items that are affixed that you plan to take with you should be removed or replaced prior to listing, such as grandmother’s chandelier.

The listing agreement will cover the relationship between the realtor and the home owner, a time frame for the listing to be active and compensation entitled the realtor. This is a legally binding document. Because of the numerous legalities associated with property ownership, it is always a wise decision to speak with a realtor when considering selling your home.
