MOUNT VERNON – Registration has opened for the Miles for Mills Memorial Day Weekend 5K, which supports recalibrated veteran families in their life after service through the work of the Travis Mills Foundation.
For the second year in a row, the race will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, May 28, at Brunswick Landing (the former Brunswick Naval Air Station). There is both an in-person 5K race, and a virtual one, from any location the participant chooses. There is also a category from those who don’t want to participate in the race, but still want to raise money.
Awards are for the top three overall men and women, and top man and woman in each age class.
Age classes are 14 and under, 15-29, 20-29, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over.
There are also awards for the top male and female handcycle participants and top male and female wheelchair participants.
Early registration is $30, and participants who want a free T-shirt must sign up by April 1, when registration fee rises to $35.
There will be two packet pickups, one in Augusta and one in Brunswick. A packet pickup will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26, at Buker Community Center, 22 Armory St., Augusta. The second will be 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 27, at Brunswick Recreation Center, 220 Neptune Drive, Brunswick landing. Race day bib pick up will be 7 to 8:15 a.m.
The Travis Mills Foundation is adding fundraising incentives along with race and parking maps. Each fundraiser on a team will be eligible for prizes; the team that raises the most money for the Travis Mills Foundation will receive a trophy and bragging rights.
