BHM Community Wellness Fair is Feb. 27-March 3

PORTLAND – A community wellness fair is being held from Monday, Feb. 28, to Friday, March 3, both in-person and on Zoom, as part of the region’s Black History Month celebration.
The fair, at the Equality Community Center, 15 Casco St., is hosted by Cross Community Services, in collaboration with local and state providers and governmental agencies, and will feature daily panels addressing a variety of issues related to this year’s theme Social Determinants of Health and how it intersects with COVID, race, housing, food insecurity, employment, and transportation.
A health care and resource fair will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Friday, March 3, which will include free vaccines and flu shots, as well as Hep C and HIV rapid testing.
Daily panels and workshops will be provided by Cross Cultural Community Services, Maine Association for New Americans Maine Access Immigrant Network, city of Portland Health Equity Program, Gateway Community Services, New Mainers Public Health Initiative, United Way of Southern Maine, Spiritual Care Services of Maine, Maine Family Planning, MaineHealth, Frannie Peabody Center, Equality Community Center, and the state Office of Behavioral Health StrengthenME Program. In-person sessions will include snacks, continental breakfast, and lunch.
The event was first organized in 2020 by the state’s Office of Behavioral Health’s Strengthen ME program and grant recipients in response to the high number of black, indigenous, and people of color community members being affected by COVID.
