RUMFORD – Beautify Rumford presented its 12th annual Festival of Trees the evening of Dec. 10.
Co-hosted by the River Valley Chamber of Commerce, the event was held in the auditorium at City Hall, and featured 18 decorated trees were sponsored by local organizations and businesses. In addition to the display of Christmas trees bordering the hall, there were several other elements to enjoy.
The Dirigo Divas and Co. volunteers served chili, macaroni and cheese, cupcakes, chips and drinks. Greeters passed out raffle tickets, programs and smiles.
Creativity was easily found amongst the fir trees, from the one made up of pyramid-stacked legal books to one hung with ornaments made entirely from paper straws by the Lithuanian Heritage Club.
Music was provided by Tammy Schmersal Burgess and Catherine Stickney, and Cynthia Clark-Bulger. Douglass Maifield read “A Visit from St. Nicholas (The Night Before Christmas), “ after which Santa Claus took the stage to visit with the many children in attendance.
There was also a gymnastics demonstration by GRCC Gymnastics Team. A few children’s craft tables were in use throughout the evening. Door prizes and raffle winners were announced near the event finish.
The program gave thanks to all those in the community who helped make the event a success by donating wreaths and prizes.
