AARP Maine names Steadfast Advocate, Beacon recipients

PORTLAND – AARP has named its Steadfast Advocate and Beacon Community of 2022 award winners.
Paul Armstrong, of Palermo, was named the recipient of the Steadfast Advocate Award, which celebrates an individual volunteer’s countless and unending efforts to support the AARP Maine mission. Armstrong is AARP Maine Advocacy Volunteer Lead, and has continually demonstrated his steadfast commitment to the betterment of the lives of older Mainers, AARP officials said.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award, although I don’t feel I go above or beyond what other volunteer advocates do,” Armstrong said. “The work isn’t really work to me and the end results are very gratifying.”
The Beacon Community award recognizes and celebrates a community, XXXX. This year’s winner is Danforth Livable Communities, a member of the AARP Network of Age-friendly States and Communities since 2018.
Led by Danforth Town Manager Ardis Brown, Danforth Livable Communities has advanced many initiatives in the last few years.
AARP Maine celebrated both honorees at its annual meeting on Oct. 25.
