BRUNSWICK – The Southern Maine Astronomers’ club is holding a Zoom talk, as well as an in-person outdoor observing event in the coming weeks.
“Defending the Dark,” will be the topic at the Southern Maine Astronomers’ monthly club meeting at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6.
The meeting will be held on Zoom, and is free and open to the public.
Tara Roberts Zabriskie, producer and director of a new short film on the effects of light pollution, especially in Maine, will be the guest speaker. The meeting will include the showing of the 35-minute film, “Defending the Dark,” followed by a discussion with Zabriskie.
The meeting will also include a tour of the constellations Lyra and Lacerta.

From 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, the club will host the Southern Maine Astronomers’ Monthly Star Party at 179 Neptune Drive, Brunswick Landing.
The event is free and open to amateur astronomers, hobbyists and beginners alike, and anyone else who wants to observe the stars. There is no equipment required – the lub will have several telescopes set up to allow viewing. Though anyone who wants to bring equipment is welcome to.
The event will include a laser pointer tour of constellations and will occur rain or shine. If the weather isn’t good, the meeting will occur indoors and include talks, telescope demos and observing tips.
