Maine Fiddlehead Festival is back, on April 30

FARMINGTON — The Maine Fiddlehead Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington.
The annual festival, which began in 2012, is back after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival features local farmers and food producers, craft vendors, food trucks, community nonprofits, live farm animals, children’s activities, musicians and more. Centered on local food, both farmed and foraged, the event celebrates local living and rural healthy lifestyles.
The festival also marks the beginning of the farmers market season. Timing of the event usually coincides with the emergence of the Maine fiddlehead, the immature form of the ostrich fern.
Highlights of the festival include Dave Fuller, recently retired from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, leading visitors on a walk and talk in search of fiddleheads, as well as a fiddlehead cooking demonstration by Ashley Montgomery.
The festival is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine.
Parking is available in UMF lots on High Street and on lower Main Street near Abbott Park.
