Livermore Falls Drug Takeback/Shred Event set for April 30

LIVERMORE FALLS – The town’s Drug Takeback/ Shred Event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Livermore Falls Police Department, 2 Main St.
The event, part of a national event that day, will offer free disposal of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medicine and a drive-through operation where area residents can securely shred and recycle sensitive personal information like tax returns, bank statements and medical records.
WHAT TO BRING:
MEDICINE
Medicine should be brought in its original container, if possible, so it can be identified.
• Expired or unwanted prescriptions
• Vitamins
• Veterinary medication
• Homeopathic treatments
• Over the counter medicine
RECORDS
• Tax forms
• Bank statements/loan forms
• Insurance documents
• Medical records
DO NOT BRING
Mercury thermometers, needles or syringes, electronic equipment, or digital storage devices such as hard drives, CDs, or thumb drives.
The collection will result in proper medicine and records disposal. It not only protects the environment, but also prevents youth drug abuse, and protects individuals from being targeted for drug thefts.
“People need a safe and easy way to get rid of their old medicines,” Earnest Steward, Livermore Falls Police Chief, said. “Of particular concern for youth are painkillers like morphine or codeine, and stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall. Experts say there is simply too much medication floating around in people’s homes, indicating that people are unsure how to safely dispose of them.”
Identity theft is also on the rise. “While much of what is reported on are technology data breaches at large organizations there are steps you can take to reduce your risk. One easy measure is to destruct personal records safely and securely for free at events like these,” said. Jessica Everett, account executive at Records Management Center.
The event is being coordinated by the Livermore Falls Police Department, Records Management Center and Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.
