WINSLOW — Starfish Village and Winslow Community Cupboard food pantry (a ministry of Winslow Congregational Church), have opened Stone Soup Café, which serves free dine-in lunches to anyone in the area who would like one.
The café is open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, at Winslow Congregational Church, 12 Lithgow St.. Although free, donations are always welcome.
“Food insecurity is driven by many factors; it is no longer the exclusive problem of our most economically challenged neighbors, the homeless, or people entrenched in generational poverty,” said Rev. Maureen Ausbrook. “Food insecurity is all around us, impacting working people and retired seniors struggling to adjust to higher rents and the increasing cost of food, fuel and gas. Many people also live alone, and, if they are retired or unable to work, then isolation may be as challenging to them as food insecurity.
“People are hungry for more than just food, and breaking bread with others in a warm and welcoming community is good for body and soul,” she said.
