PORTLAND — Daylight savings time begins Sunday, March 13, and Red Cross Northern New England Region is reminding Mainers to test their smoke alarms when they turn their clocks forward one hour.
Smoke alarms can cut the risk of dying in a home fire by half, according to the Red Cross. Since Jan. 1, the Red Cross Disaster Action Team has responded to 61 fires across Maine, helping approximately 217 individuals in the aftermath of the nation’s most frequent disaster – a home fire.
