Edward Little Galway Award winners announced on Senior Night

AUBURN — Edward Little High School senior Jason Brooker, the son of Jennifer and Damian Brooker, has been named the 2022 recipient of the annual Sixth Player Award, presented in honor of retired 35-year assistant principal Steve Galway.
Established in 2000, the award is presented to the ELHS boys’ basketball player exemplifying commitment, dedication, sacrifice, spirit, work ethic, leadership and love of the game. The award is given just before the start of the last home game, on Senior Night.
Tyson Green, son of Michelle and Hosea Green, was named the award winner for 2021, but because of COVID-19 restrictions in place during that basketball season, the announcement was made at this year’s final home basketball game of the 2021-22 season. He is studying architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Galway — known to many at EL as “Mr. Basketball” — was also an IAABO referee for 25 years, officiating more than 1,500 games.
