Whiting Farm is closed by parent organization

AUBURN — Whiting Farm, a nonprofit farm operated by John F. Murphy Homes, has been permanently closed, the organization announced.
The agency’s decision came amid challenges wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, an unprecedented statewide workforce crisis and persistent funding concerns within the disability sector, according to a news release.
Officials said that operations at the farm ceased Feb. 4, and the move will help realign resources to further the agency’s primary mission of providing support and services for children and adults with autism, intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
John F. Murphy Homes acquired Whiting Farm in 2015.
“It has been an honor for us to keep this resource available to the broader community,” said CEO Todd Goodwin. “We have appreciated the goodwill and support from the Whiting family and all the friends, neighbors, volunteers and staff who have worked tirelessly to uphold this local institution.”
John F. Murphy Homes will continue to maintain the Whiting Farm property as it considers best alternative use options.
