AUGUSTA — Residents of Androscoggin, Kennebec and Somerset counties who are unemployed or under-employed may qualify for a no-cost heating, ventilation, and air conditioning training opportunity offered through the Augusta, Skowhegan and Lewiston CareerCenters, in partnership with MTEC and Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education.
An information session and orientation is being held at 3:30p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at the Augusta CareerCenter, 21 Enterprise Drive, Suite 2. Individuals age 18 and up are invited to attend to learn more and see if they qualify.
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians are in high demand and can start at $15 an hour, plus benefit packages, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Labor. The training is valued at $12,000 and provides potential for immediate employment upon completion of course and receiving a license.
Preferred candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, mechanical aptitude, a clean driver’s license, can lift 50 pounds, can perform tasks physical in nature and have good customer service skills. Successful candidates will be required to pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical examination that includes a drug and alcohol test.
