YARMOUTH — Maine Preservation’s Annual Gala will take place virtually from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17.
This year’s virtual program celebrates Maine’s harvest and bounty through a video program exploring the rich history of Maine’s apple orchards, historic barns and indigenous settlements, accompanied by a virtual statewide map highlighting sites that celebrate the season. Featured presenters include John Bunker, founder of Maine Heritage Orchard and Maine heirloom apple expert; James E. Francis Sr., tribal historian of Penobscot Nation; Brother Arnold Hadd, a Shaker member and elder of Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village; and Arron Sturgis, owner of Preservation Timber Framing.
The event also includes the annual paddle raise in support of the Patricia Anderson Summer Fellowship program and an online auction featuring a variety of experiences and goods. Snack kits with a variety of hand-selected local goods are available from CrateFull of Maine for delivery. New to this year’s gala is a raffle featuring a pack basket made by Richard Silliboy of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs filled with items from Maine’s harvest.
Maine Preservation has received generous support for this event from both individual patrons and corporate sponsors. The program was organized by the Maine Preservation Gala Committee, including Anne Niles, Alison Prawer, Cyndy Taylor, Elizabeth Henshaw and Susan Axelrod.
