WATERVILLE — The Children’s Discovery Museum has announced the lineup of its holiday programs for the 2021 season, which will include virtual Kringleville, Light Up the Town, Lettersto Santa, and new this year, Santa is Coming to Town.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will meet children virtually this year, through scheduled online Zoom calls. Families will register online and talk to Santa and Mrs. Claus from the comfort of their homes. Calls last 5-7 minutes and will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekend in December leading up to Christmas.
While Santa will not be in his cabin this year, Castonguay Square will still be decorated for the season, with a tree and holiday lights. Santa’s cabin will also be there, and children are encouraged to write letters to Santa to leave in his mailbox outside the cabin, or send them through the Waterville post office. Santa will respond to all letters, as long as the child’s address is included in the letter. Information will be kept confidential by the Children’s Discovery Museum.
“It is such a delight to plan and coordinate these programs each year,” said Amarinda Keys, executive director of the Children’s Discovery Museum. “These are challenging times we are living through, so we hope these events bring some needed joy to the Central Maine community.”
Along with Kringleville, the museum is hosting a city-wide light celebration. Businesses and individuals will decorate their property with lights and register to be on a city-wide map, so people can walk or drive by to admire the decorations.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, in partnership with Waterville Creates’ Joy to the Ville and the Mid-MaineChamber of Commerce’s Shop Small Saturday, the Children’s Museum will coordinate Santa and Mrs. Claus’s procession down Main Street to Castonguay Square, where they will light the Christmas tree and kick off the holiday season.
The event is scheduled for 5 p.m.
