EMT certification course comes with a job at the end

PITTSFIELD — Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital is offering an emergency medical technician certification course in partnership with Kennebec Valley Community College.
Participants will be paid for their time as “work to grow” employees of Northern Light Health, and will sign a two-year contract with Northern Light upon completion and getting a Maine EMT license.
The course will from Oct. 11 to Nov. 19, and classes will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, as well as three Saturdays. On the remaining weekdays, participants will job shadow for a total of 40 hours between class time and shadowing.
Eligible candidates will work alongside Northern Light EMS providers and will be brought into the program as a “work to grow” employee and be paid for 40 hours a week, which will compensate them for class and job shadow time. Upon completion of the program and getting a Maine EMT license, candidates will be promoted to EMT, with a pay increase. Candidates will be required to sign a two-year contract with Northern Light Health.
