AUGUSTA — Maine Revenue Services has opened registration for the 2021 Maine Tax Symposium, a virtual, day-long event slated for Thursday, Sept. 23 and designed to arm taxpayers, accountant, and tax preparers, among others, with an overview of the tax law changes made during the most recent Legislative sessions, including an overview of the more than 25 newly enacted income tax law changes.
The event will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will take place on Zoom.
“The impacts of COVID-19, tax code changes at the federal level, stimulus payments, and refinements in existing law have brought a multitude of changes to our state tax code over the last year,” said Jerome Gerard, MRS executive director. “The 2021 Tax Symposium will provide accountants, tax preparers, taxpayers, attorneys, and other interested parties with the latest updates on Maine’s tax statutes and related considerations.”
The symposium will feature accountants, counsel, and experts from Maine Revenue Services, the Maine Office of Marijuana Policy, and the Office of the Attorney General, who will make presentations about the impact of COVID-19 on Maine tax law, the state’s current tax law, changes to sales tax and special taxes, and on marijuana excise tax. Additionally, presentations will cover tax policy, property tax updates, and a law-by-law review of the more than 25 recent changes to Maine’s income tax code.
