SOUTH PARIS — University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H is offering free in-person events in the Oxford Hills area for youth ages 5 to 18.
Busy as Bees Workshop will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, outdoors at the Oxford County Extension Office, 9 Olson Road.
While the workshop is free, registration is required by clicking here by June 23, so matierals can be planned.
Beekeepers Chris and Paula Easton will talk about bees and other pollinators. They will show participants an active hive and discuss why bees are not only extremely important for humans, but also for entire ecosystems to function. There will also be creative art and pollination- related STEM activities after the bee presentation. The Eastons are members of the Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club and the Maine State Beekeepers Association.
Nature Walk at Shepard’s Farm Preserve will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 5, 121 Crockett Ridge Road, Norway. Western Foothills Land Trust will lead for a nature walk that will explore and identify native plants along the rolling hills and trails of the preserve, and participants will gather natural materials to make homemade paint brushes. Those who feel inspired by the surrounding landscape and Bernard Langlais sculptures may also make paints to make their own nature-inspired work of art. The walk is open to youth of all ages, and is free. Registration is required by July 29 by clicking here.
