Free Somerset Community Baby Shower is June 26

SKOWHEGAN — The second annual Community Baby Shower will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Dr. Mann Road.
The event is sponsored by the Somerset Family Enrichment Council and other community partners. The free event supports new mothers and families, providing resources, education and helpful gifts. Prizes given away during the event will include baby bath items, a car seat, outfits, diapers and changing pads, shampoo, a wooden rule from Skowhegan Wooden Rule and more.
The Community Baby Shower is designed to support parents and help them by providing basic newborn supplies, knowledge about resources in the community, to make new social connections, and simply have fun together.
Community partners will provide information and giveaways to attendees. Topics include safe sleep practices, breastfeeding, health services, the WIC program, car seat safety, self-care for parents, a baby boutique with free gently used baby clothe, and more.
On Friday, June 4, the Somerset Family Enrichment Council will host a collection event at the Skowhegan Chamber of Commerce from 3 to 6 p.m. for community who’d like to donate. Needed items are baby shampoo, diaper cream, baby wipes, pacifiers, burp cloths, bibs, board books and infant toys. Online donations can be made at visit: bit.ly/kvcapbaby.
“The Community Baby Shower is a great way to celebrate pregnant women and new families and let them know they are an important part of our village,” said event organizer Kristen Plummer. “It’s truly a one-stop shop for local resources, organizations, and businesses that can provide help to pregnant women and new families in our community.”
The first 100 mothers registered will get a Welcome Baby Bag filled with items for their newborn. There will be light refreshments. participants will be required to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing.
