Maine Coast Fisherman’s Association collaborates with local artist

BRUNSWICK — The Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association has partnered with Freeport artist Maegan Monsees to offer a Fishermen’s Association rope gathering bucket with a distinct color and MCFA cork tag to help raise money for the effort to enhance the sustainability of Maine’s fisheries.
The MCFA advocates for the needs of community-based fishermen and the environmental restoration of the Gulf of Maine, including promoting healthy working waterfronts, supporting the next generation of fishermen and providing fresh fish to those in need through the Fishermen Feeding Mainers program.
Online sale of products like Monsees’ Mae in Maine’s Evergreen Gathering Bucket, along with apparel and other gifts, directly benefit MCFA’s programs. Mae in Maine’s is their most recent product collaboration.
To make her one-of-a-kind hand-made creations, Monsees dyes and sews 100 percent cotton rope. The Evergreen Gathering Bucket is constructed on a sewing machine and coiled by hand. From collecting shells to picking raspberries, the basket comes in handy.
The Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association offers the baskets to supporters in an effort to help promote sustainable fisheries and Maine small businesses. The organization hopes the collaboration will help more people to learn about the importance of taking care of our fisheries and our working waterfronts for the benefit of Maine communities well into the future.
