POLAND — The public is invited to participate in a trail walk Sunday, May 21, beginning at 2:30 p.m., with participants gathering in the parking lot behind Ricker Memorial Library, 1211 Maine St. (Route 26).

Guided walks will be offered by Alan Audet, amateur naturalist, and Fred Huntress, Poland town forester. The guides will point out features of the Heart of Poland Conservation area, discussing the plants, animals, geologic and historical features making this a special reserve.

People are also welcome to explore the trails on their own.The Heart of Poland has been a project of the Poland Conservation Commission and the Poland Trails Committee for the past five years. The project was made possible by a large number of individual contributions for the purchase of land and by enthusiastic support of the Selectboard and Town Meeting.

This is an opportunity for citizens to join in celebration of this newest addition to the town’s open space and outdoor recreation areas.
