Red Light Therapy added to Alfond Youth & Community Center health, wellness program

Dec. 142020

WATERVILLE — Peter G. Alfond’s passion for healthy living and alternative health care practices in the community led the Harold Alfond Foundation to award an $8 million gift in Peter’s honor to expand new community wellness programs at the Alfond Youth & Community Center in collaboration with Maine General Medical Center.
Although Alfond died two years ago, his vision remains a focus of the Alfond Youth & Community Center’s approach to the wellbeing of the community.
Keeping his image of health and wellness in mind, the AYCC has recently expanded member’s experience by adding Red Light Therapy. John Brier, longtime supporter of the AYCC, donated the equipment and materials needed to integrate red light therapy into the center’s program; all revenue generated from its use will support the programs and mission of the club.
“The AYCC is a tremendous asset to the community, especially from a health and wellness perspective,” said John Brier. “We are pleased to be able to provide the AYCC and their members with a red light experience,” added Brier.
Individuals who experience red light on a regular basis may find an increased reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and some other benefits. Others simply enjoy the deep relaxation achieved during their sessions.
The newly renovated “Rejuvenation Suite” features cedar walls, an automated massage chair, a stationary bike, and has complete coverage of installed Mito Red Light systems. During each 20 minute session users will receive a unique combination of deep red light 660nm and near infrared light 850nm exposure.
Sawyer Boulette, Wellness Center Director at the AYCC, sees the new offering as a great addition to their wellness and membership platform. “As we looked at ways to enhance our member’s experience and fulfill Peter’s vision at the AYCC, we’ve considered many alternative wellness opportunities. We’re eager to offer red light therapy and massage therapy as an added value to our members.”
AYCC members can experience Salt Athletics for $5 a session or have an option to add $10 a month to their membership for unlimited visits; community members can try each session for $20.
