Maine voters urged to prepare now to avoid lines July 14

LEWISTON — Maine residents are encouraged to take care of their voter registration services in advance of election day. If a Maine citizen needs to register to vote, update their voter registration status if they have recently moved or changed their name, or enroll in a political party, if interested, these services should be taken care of before the July 14 election day.
While these services are offered at the polls, it can be done at the municipal clerk’s office at any time. Residents are strongly encouraged not to wait until election day to take care of this task because it will add to the wait times and delay voters on July 14. Polling places will have building occupancy capacity limits on election day so any election-related services that can be conducted in advance are strongly encouraged. Residents are welcome to go to their city hall now to complete this service.
For Lewiston residents, city hall is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and appointments are not needed. Residents should bring their ID and proof of Lewiston residency when they register. In other municipalities, residents should check their town website or call the town clerk.
Residents can also register to vote through the mail until July 7. In Lewiston, they can call the city clerk’s office at 207-513-3124 and a voter registration card can be mailed to them or they can print off the card from the city’s election website at www.lewistonmaine.gov/elections. Citizens can return their cards in the mail or in the red drop box outside ofcity hall by the Park Street entrance.
