WATERVILLE — Area residents can celebrate Earth Day by recycling electronic waste on April 21 and 22. The Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, eWaste Alternatives and the United Way are teaming up to take hard-to-dispose of electronics from households, businesses, nonprofit organizations and municipalities with fewer than 100 employees from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22, at eWaste Alternatives, 60 Industrial St.
Volunteers will unload and sort the electronics. Go to www.ewastealternatives.org/communityrecycling for a list of items that can be recycled for free or for more information.
A fee will be charged for copiers, fax, scanners, large printers (20 cents a pound); monitors or TVs with exposed, damaged or cracked screens ($5 each); wood consoles, projection TVs, things in wood cabinets ($10 each); “disposable” non-rechargeable batteries (50 cents a pound).
Items that won’t be accepted are those containing refrigerants; gasoline; oil; propane or gas bottles and tanks; leaking batteries; light bulbs; fire and CO detectors; mercury switches; heavy metals (for instance, lead); waste in liquid or gaseous states (paint, aerosols, chemicals).
