AUGUSTA — The Maine Arts Commission is kicking off its 2020 Arts Iditarod, an informational regional tour to engage communities throughout the state. The Arts Iditarod will provide professional development workshops, information on state grant offerings, and group discussions geared towards arts and cultural organizations, as well as artists, arts educators, and community members interested in development in and through the arts.
The sessions are free and open to the public and are from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through February, and the tour schedule is: Feb. 5, Skowhegan Community Center in cooperation with Mainstreet Skowhegan; Feb. 12 at the Gem Theater, Bethel; Feb. 19 at USM Gorham Campus, Roome 215 Bailey Hall; Feb. 26, Caribou Public Library, Caribou.
Each of the four gatherings will include intensive workshops on the Maine Arts Commission programs and grant information, as well as a marketing shop talk for artists and organizations. Participants should come prepared to discuss ideas and for grant applications. Additionally, information and updates will be provided on several agency initiatives, including the Commission’s nonprofit advocacy and support organization, ArtsEngageME.
