PORTLAND — The Veterans Count Radiothon raised $50,000 to support Maine’s military families in 12 hours on March 30, according to a news release from the organization.
The radiothon, in its second year, was hosted on Portland Radio Group’s WGAN, AM 560 and FM 105.5, and featured guests including musician Don Campbell, comedian Bob Marley, Gov. Paul Lepage, and former governors John Baldacci and Joe Brennan.
Veterans Count Maine is the fundraising chapter in support of Easterseals Maine’s Military and Veterans programs, which provides emergency financial assistance, information, counseling and referral to post 9/11 veterans and their families as they make the sometimes challenging transition from military service to civilian life, according to the release. Services include help finding employment, housing, affordable vehicle / house maintenance services, and even food, rent, fuel, and heating oil in particularly dire situations.
The program is all philanthropic and relies on grants, corporate sponsorship and private donor support. All money raised stays in Maine, the release said. For more information, go to www.vetscount.org/maine.
