Programs for senior citizens and disabled adults provided by Spectrum Generations

WATERVILLE — Spectrum Generations, the Central Maine Area Agency on Aging and Aging and Disability Resource Center, has been a leading provider of information and advice, referrals, programs and activities for adults for more than 30 years. The following programs are scheduled to take place at the organization’s Muskie Center, 38 Gold St., unless otherwise noted.

Family Caregiver Support Group — Are you a caregiver for a family member or friend? Does your loved one have dementia or another chronic illness? Come and talk with others who share a similar journey, to support one another and learn about resources and information that may help you. The Caregiver Support Group meets Wednesday, April 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m. For more information, please call Mary at 660-9268.

Medicare 101 Clinic — Are you new to Medicare? If this is the year you sign up, then attending this session will help you sort out your options. Medicare has four parts: A, B, C & D. Part A is hospital insurance. Part B is medical insurance. Part C is Medicare Advantage Plans. Part D is for prescription drugs. Do you know the difference between a Medigap Plan and a Medicare Advantage Plan? Our Medicare 101 Clinic is where you can find the answers to questions you may have such as: How do you enroll? What services are covered? What is the cost? … and more.

The next session will be Friday, April 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. (Attending one of these Medicare sessions is required before an appointment can be made to discuss individual needs.) Donations are accepted and appreciated. Pre-registration is required by calling 873-4745.

AARP Safe Drivers — Join us Thursday, April 27 for the “AARP Safe Drivers Course” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $18 for AARP members and $23 for non-members. Muffins and coffee will be served in the morning, and the Center’s buffet lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration for this course is required by calling 873-4745 or stop by the reception desk to secure your seat.

It’s All About the Legs! — Regular walks increase endurance, lower blood pressure, reduce “bad” cholesterol, improve cardiovascular health, boost bone strength and help burn more calories. Join Robin Maginn, advanced senior personal trainer and group exercise instructor, to learn leg exercises that utilize multiple joints to increase core stability Tuesday, April 11 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Muskie Center. The fee is $10. Pre-register by calling 873-4745.

Yoga — Join Kim Nashed, a Yoga Alliance certified instructor, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The fee is $5 per class. Call 873-4745 to sign up.

Matter of Balance — A nationally-recognized program designed to reduce the fear of falling and encourage physical activity takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m., May 30 through June 29, Matter of Balance workshops are conducted over 8 sessions, meeting twice a week for two hours per session. Tai Chi — Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays, 8 to 9 a.m., April 3 through May 22, to register or for more information, call Lyn at 930-8082.

Richard Simmons Workout — This fun class runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m. The fee is $1; please call 873-4745 FMI.

Hollywood Casino — Join us Wednesday, April 12 for a day of fun as we travel to Hollywood Casino in Bangor. Lunch options at the casino include the Take 2 Snack Bar and 99 Hops House. Van driver Marilyn Welch will be leaving from the Muskie Center at 9 a.m. The fee is $15. Pre-registration is required by calling 873-4745 or stop by the reception desk.

Remember Me Spiritual Readings — Medium Francine McEwen uses her clairvoyant abilities to connect with loved ones who have passed to spirit. Her spiritual readings have brought comfort and healing to those who are grieving. McEwen will hold sessions Friday, April 21, from 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. The fee is $25 for each half-hour. Call 873-4745 to schedule an appointment for your reading.

Speak French Social Hour — Was French your first language? Do you speak French but only have a few people to converse with? Are you learning French and wish for more opportunities to practice? If yes, come join our Speak French Social Hour Wednesdays from 9:30 — 10:30 a.m. The fee is $3 iand ncludes coffee and muffins.Call 873-4745 to join in the fun!

The Game of Bridge –Non-Sanctioned Duplicate Bridge meets every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The fee is $2. Please bring your own partner and call 872-5932 for more information.
