RUMFORD – Carrie Ponte, NP-C, has joined the staff at Rumford Hospital’s Urgent Care. Ponte, a board certified nurse practitioner specializing in urgent care medicine, has more than 20 years of patient care experience, and completed clinical rotations at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, Maine Family Planning in Lewiston and Waterville Pediatrics. She is committed to practicing a holistic approach to health care, said a news release from Central Maine Healthcare.
“My healthcare philosophy includes treating every patient as a person, with the respect and dignity they deserve,” she said in the news release. “I enjoy taking the time to counsel and educate patients and their family members about the condition or injury that brought them to urgent care and together we decide which treatment would work best to fit their needs and maximize a positive outcome.
“Additionally, I believe it is important to follow up with patients to ensure the recommended treatment is effective in helping to restore health,” she said.
“I believe that during interactions, a health care provider’s ability to listen, empathize and explain has a profound impact on the care patients receive. In order to be present with my patients, I have been practicing the habit of pausing before knocking on the exam room door, taking a deep breath, clearing my mind and I am ready to say, ‘Hi, my name is Carrie. What can I do for you today?'” she said.
Ponte attended Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing in Lewiston, where she earned an associate of science in nursing, and earned a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Southern Maine in Portland. She completed a master of science in nursing, nurse practioner degree at Husson University in Bangor. She is a member of the Maine Nurse Practitioners Association.
