AUGUSTA – The Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce launches its new program, 7th Up Biz Tour, on Wednesday, Oct, 16. The 7th Up Biz Tour is a program that exposes students to all the great businesses and career opportunities that are right here in the Kennebec Valley.
In partnership with the Augusta School Department, the Kennbec Valley Chamber will transport 180 seventh-graders from Cony Middle School on a day-long tour of different C=chamber member businesses from a variety of industries.
A dozen participating businesses will offer experiential tours, the opportunity to meet and engage with employees, and the opportunity to learn about the business and the jobs available in the Kennbec Valley. The short-term goal is to spark an interest in a future career and to excite each student about what exists for them in our community. The long-term goal is to develop our region’s workforce and economy of the future.
The program launches with a kick-off party at 7:30 a.m. at Cony Middle Schoo, followed by the tours.
The 7th Up program was launched in 2018 by the Building Bridges program of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Bangor School District to introduce 300 seventh-grade students to the many career opportunities the region has to offer.
The Kennebec Valley Chamber plans to expand the program out to the whole region in 2020.
