Free Mill Brook Craft Series hosted in Bethel through August

BETHEL — Thursday afternoons this summer, from July 11 through Aug. 29, skilled craftspeople will lead hands-on workshops at the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society.
The Mill Brook Craft Series will take advantage of the newl -completed Twitchell Education Center, which — on the exterior — is a replica of Dr. Moses Mason’s 19th century library building. Each week, a different craft will be highlighted, with historical context, demonstrations, and opportunities for hands-on experience provided to participants.
Although admission to the individual craft series sessions is free, registration is encouraged.
All workshops will begin at 1 p.m. and generally last from one to three hours.

July 11, Quilting, with Donna Gillis;
July 18, Soap-making, with Norman Milliard;
July 25, Art & Book Illustrating (including a book signing for “Cornelia ‘Fly Rod’ Crosby: Champion of Maine”), with Heidi Kendrick;
Aug. 1, Historic Ironwork, with Richard Duka;
Aug. 8, Timber-framing, with J. Scott Campbell;
Aug. 15, Needlepoint & Fancy Embroidery, with Pam Sheerin;
Aug. 22, Writing & Communication, with Amy Wight Chapman;
Aug. 29, Chair-seating & Basket-making, with Wendy Hutchins.

The Twitchell Education Center is next to the Dr. Moses Mason House at 14 Broad St. The 2019 Mill Brook Craft Series is supported by the Florence Bickford Hastings Traditional Crafts Fund and presented in memory of beloved volunteer and educator Tineke Ouwinga.
