WATERVILLE — The Waterville Public Library has scheduled some special events for April, as well as the annual Spring Book Sale.
Upcoming programs include a workshop on using painful experiences in writing and a meditation and focused breathing session.
Both the workshop and meditation are free and open to the public, but registration is required for each.
The library will host “From the Light: Writing About Wounding Experiences,” from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11. The workshop will be facilitated by Arisa White.
Writers may draw inspiration from events that have left them wounded, and while it has a therapeutic effect, the goal of the workshop is to use the light of suffering to create work that is emotionally balanced, distinctive in language and capable of illuminating an experience and touches readers’ sense of empathy.

On Thursday, April 25, the library will hold a workshop on guided meditation and focused breathing.
The workshop will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and be facilitated by Kim Nashed and John Parsons, who will guide participants in a simple flow of breathing and meditation.
Participants are asked to bring two blankets and a yoga mat if they have one. Register at guided-meditation-focused-breathing.eventbrite.com.
The book sale will take place during library hours April 13 through 19 in the Fireplace Room at the library, 73 Elm St. All sales are by donation. The library is closed Sunday, April 14, so there is no book sale that day.
