Folk fiber exhibit on view through March at Robinson House

BETHEL — “Threads of Our Lives: Maine Folk Fiber Art,” a traveling exhibit developed by the Maine Folklife Center at the University of Maine, will be on view 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for the rest of March at the Bethel Historical Society’s Robinson House.

Made possible through a National Endowment of the Arts grant, the display is a collaborative project of the Bethel Library Association and the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society, said a news release from the historial society.

The exhibit highlights the diversity of folk fiber arts in Maine through text and images on four freestanding panels: “Wabanaki,” “Settlers,” “New Mainers,” and “Community.” Complementing the society’s recently opened exhibit of vintage and new hooked rugs, the Maine Folklife Center panels illustrate how Mainers from various backgrounds are carrying on fiber art traditions today, the release said.
