MADRID –The annual Candlelight Christmas Service at Reeds Mill Church will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.
The service is open to the public, and the church, which has no electricity and is heated by a large wood stove, is at 995 Reeds Mill Road. The original kerosene lamps provide light. The church, the only one to be built in Madrid, is a one-room building designed to hold about 100 people. The first service was in December 1892. “Worshipers still gather in this wonderful, historic church to celebrate the Christmas season with the singing of favorite carols and the reading of the Christmas story,” organizers of this year’s service said.
