BRIDGTON — Gallery 302 will feature Maya Best, of Rumford, as its newest guest artist. Best studied at the Maine College of Art from 1978 to 1981, where she focused on painting. She was a founding member of the “Commons Art Collective” in Norway has shown in various galleries throughout the state; most recently, she had a solo exhibit at The Local Hut in Greenwood.
With nature as her greatest influence,her work is rich with color, pattern, texture and intrigue. She primarily uses mixed media, combining acrylics, inks, textures and stencil in her pieces. Her process creates multiple layers in her paintings which often produce the sensation of movement and light, bringing a sense of “spirit” to her work. She enjoys taking liberties with abstract expressionism and feelsher work is an organic process that unfolds as she works.
Best is employed as a full-time clinician at Oxford County Mental Health Services; she is also a writer and musician. A reception will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the gallery, 112 Main St., where Best will be sharing not only the rich kaleidoscope of colors and shapes in her artwork but also some of her music.
