MEXICO — The Greater Rumford Area Ministers Pantry Service is celebrating 26 years of feeding thousands since its beginning in 1992. Over the years, meals have been served at the Mexico Town Hall, where a luncheon is held every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
Between 35 and 50 people are fed lunch, free of charge, and 43 take-out meals are delivered to shut-ins each and every week.
Much of the food is donated either by Hannaford, government programs, purchased locally or from the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
All of the people who work at GRAMPS, from the cooks, kitchen helpers, wait staff and general helpers, are volunteers. Whatever supplies are needed — coffee, condiments, food and the monthly rental fee for the hall — is paid for with donations from individuals and various organizations.
The doors are opened at 10:30 a.m. for people to come in and socialize. All are welcome.
Donations are always welcome, those who run the organization said.
