BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust will host a hike to the summit of Old Speck Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Hikers should meet at the trail head on Route 26, 12 miles north of the U.S. Route 2 intersection, at 7:45 a.m.
The hike is for experienced hikers, as it is a 7.6 mile round-trip effort with 2,730 feet elevation gain and is considered challenging. Up and back will likely be at least a seven-hour effort, leaving time for lunch and enjoying the spectacular view at the summit.
Hikers are asked to come prepared with sturdy footwear and adequate clothing layers (including rain gear warmth for the top); plenty of water (72 ounces); lunch; hiking poles; sun and insect protection; headlamp or flashlight; toilet paper and small shovel. A map and/or GPS will also be useful.
