MERCER — The Sandy River 3 will present an eclectic concert of musical entertainment at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Mercer Community Center, 1015 Beech Hill Road, right off Route 2.
The trio features nationally known Bluegrass songwriter Stan Keach on guitar, Julie Davenport on upright bass and Bud Godsoe on banjo and dobro.
All three are accomplished lead and harmony singers; Davenport’s singing is particularly stunning and has earned her rave reviews wherever she performs. Godsoe is a master of the banjo, and shows his versatility with tasty dobro licks. Keach is known for his humorous numbers and versatile singing, and, with the trio act, he’ll play some soulful blues harmonica as well as guitar.
The Sandy River 3 is a pared-down version of the Sandy River Ramblers — a larger band that has performed several times at the Mercer Community Center, always to a very enthusiastic crowd.
“This will be different from Rambler concerts,” Keach said. “With the Sandy River 3, we do a little more country, rock and blues; we’ll still do some of our songs about Maine, of course, but our act has a lot of variety in it. It’ll surprise some people.”
Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students, children 10 and under are free. Delicious refreshments will be available for sale at intermission.
