ELLSWORTH — A student from Sabattus is among three statewide who has received a Laurendeau Scholarship from the Maine Community Foundation’s Androscoggin County Committee.
Maegan Sheehy, who is attending Rivier University in Nashua, N.H., was awarded the scholarship, which supports young woman who are graduating senionrs and pursuing post-secondary eduction in science or engineering at a four-year university. There is a preference for applicants demonstrating an interest and/or actively participating in their Franco-American heritage, the committe said.
The other recipients are from Aroostook County. They are Danica Deschaine, of Van Buren, attending Ave Maria University, in Ave Maria, Fla., and Olivia Gervais, of Frenchville, attending the University of Maine.
The Laurendeau Scholarship Fund was established in 2013 and is available to students across the state. Previous recipients have attended Hartwick College, the University of New England, Bates College, Worcester Polytech Institute, and Mount Holyoke College.
The deadline for the next round of scholarships is June 1, 2019. Applications are available at www.mainecf.org.
