RUMFORD — The River Valley Rotary Club of Greater Rumford Fellowship Luncheon held its weekly meetings in June at HOPE Association, 85 Lincoln Ave.
The guest speaker June 4 was Paul Doroghazi, acting club president, who spoke about tobacco, its history and the devastating effect on health.
Two guests also attended the meeting — Victors Forkus from Bryant Pond, who is working as an intern to Linda J. Briggs, Rumford’s town manager and Brenda James, real estate agent with BG Realty, who came as a guest of Catherine Johnson-Lavorgnia. James has applied to be the newest member of the River Valley Rotary Club.
Andrew S. Robinson, district attorney for District 3, spoke at the June 11 meeting about alternative courts and their structure. There are more than 3,000 cases a year on average makiing their way through the the court system.
Tom Judge of Port Clyde, executive director of Life Flight of Maine, was the guest speaker June 19.
He noted Maine was the last state in the U.S.to get Life Flight, but in 2008 was voted the best Life Flight system in North America. Eight mechanics are charged with keeping the helicopters in perfect running order, and the team is comprised of a pilot, nurse and paramedics. The River Rotary Club donated $400 to the organization.
