News from the town of Norridgewock

NORRIDGEWOCK – Absentee ballots are now available for the town of Norridgewock’s Annual Election of Municipal Officials and Referendum. Absentee ballots may be requested by phone at 207-634-2252 or in person at the town office, 16 Perkins Street. The secret ballot voting will take place on Monday, March 6, at Mill Stream School, 26 Mercer Road, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

There are three contested boards on this year’s ballot. Six candidates are running for five one-year terms on the Board of Selectmen. Newcomer Joshua Chartrand will compete with incumbents Charlotte Curtis, Matthew Everett, Ronald Frederick, James Lyman, and Sara “Sallie” Wilder.
The Board of Assessors has four people competing for three one-year terms: Charlotte Curtis, Ronald Frederick, James Lyman, and Sara “Sallie” Wilder.

The Library Board of Trustees has two vacancies on the March ballot. There are no candidates on the ballot for the open five-year term, yet Rebecca Ketchum and Hannah Luce will vie for the three-year term left vacant by Gloria Frederick, who resigned the board on Jan. 1.
This year’s secret ballot will also feature one referendum questions: Shall the ordinance entitled “Ordinance Prohibiting Retail Marijuana Establishments and Retail Marijuana Social Clubs in the Town of Norridgewock” be enacted? The Board of Selectmen have recommended adoption three votes to two.

The traditional portion of Town Meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Residents qualified to vote will consider 43 articles in open town meeting related to funding and legal operation of the Town. Among these articles will be a proposed update to the Town of Norridgewock Cemetery Ordinance, as well as consideration of the old fire station.
